Cornus florida, the flowering dogwood is a beautiful ornamental
native to North America. This dogwood is growing behind a building
across the street from our house together with a honeylocust,
magnolia and a blue spruce.
The flowering dogwood is a small tree that bears clusters of flowers
surrounded by huge petal-like bracts at the tips of upward curving
branches in May. The tree flowers before making leaves,
most commonly white, with some trees flowering in pink.
