Crumpling paper

Cylindrical crumpling

Above is a photograph of the paraphrenalia used to crumple paper using the cylindrical method. Paper is taped to two cylinders, such as the two cans above, and then...

one twists the cylinders while pushing them towards one another. This makes it possible to crumple a sheet touching only the edges of the paper. If we crumple the sheet down to a ball, we call that strong crumpling and if we just twist a sheet back and forth a little repetitively, that is weak crumpling. Cylindrical weak crumpling eliminates noise from paper friction and can be performed very slowly, so that produced the best data we had.
